Who You Are

You’re a skilled proofreader, grammar expert, and experienced editor. You’re great at coming up with fresh and unique angles for commonly covered topics, and you’re passionate about providing value to readers. You have a knack for story development and know how to work a premise and craft a hook. You can take a messy draft and organize it into a logical sequence, and you always check a fact twice for accuracy. 

You know how to produce amazing content at scale, and you’re comfortable providing candid feedback to writers in a way that brings out their best work. 

You’ve written, reported on, and/or edited real estate content on topics related to home buying or selling, homeownership, or the housing market, or have worked in an adjacent industry such as personal finance, mortgage, etc.

You love the processes of ideation, creation, and publication, and you’re excited to work at a place where you can make an impact!

What You’ll Do Here

The associate editor of HomeLight’s Seller Resource Center will join our growing editorial staff and work with the Managing Editor to execute on 25-30 feature-length blog posts per month from ideation to publication. This role will be responsible for building out and managing their own team of approximately 12 freelance writers to meet production goals. Blog posts will appear on HomeLight’s well-established real estate blog known as the Seller Resource Center featuring articles, guides, and resources to help people take better care of their homes and complete a successful sale when the time is right. Topics covered for this blog vertical include home improvement, working with real estate agents, real estate investing and cash buyers, taxes, insurance, and more.

You Will

• Uphold HomeLight’s high editorial standards for creating interesting, data-driven, and helpful-beyond-belief blog articles 

• Assign prompts to 15-20 freelance contract writers and track production deadlines

• Edit and provide detailed feedback on each article and ensure posts are ready to publish in time to meet production goals

• Help put together and manage HomeLight’s content calendar

• Craft and safeguard our brand voice

• Bring big ideas to the table for unique, out-of-the-box story ideas and content team projects

You Have

• Minimum of two years of professional editing experience at a reputable publication

• Strong written and oral communication skills

• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines under pressure

• Strong interviewing, research, and writer coaching skills

• Proficiency in AP style

• Experience scaling a content program and meeting ambitious traffic or acquisition goals

• Problem-solving mindset

• Familiarity with WordPress
