Lawfare is a multimedia website dedicated to taking on hard questions at the nexus of national security, law, and policy. During a period of grave concern over the health of America’s democracy, Lawfare has emerged as one of the most trusted sources of information and analysis on the issues central to democracy’s preservation.
With a long history of publishing non-partisan, fact-based examinations of complex challenges, Lawfare aims to inform the policy conversation by providing sober analysis of opaque, tangled legal and policy issues. It publishes pieces on a diverse array of topics—national security law, cybersecurity, executive power, content moderation, domestic extremism, and foreign policy, among many others. Its regular contributors include current and former government officials, journalists, practicing lawyers, and academics. It also offers a Student Contributor program that aims to foster the next generation of national security experts.
In addition to its website, which is updated daily with new articles, Lawfare currently hosts eight podcasts offering a variety of perspectives on national security. In cooperation with Goat Rodeo, Lawfare produces The Lawfare Podcast, Rational Security, Chatter,Lawfare No Bull, and After Trump, as well asLawfare Presents—an anthology of deep-dive narratives on the most important stories of the day. Past seasons of Lawfare Presents have covered the Mueller Report, Trump's first impeachment, and its ongoing series, The Aftermath, which looks at the government’s response to the January 6 Capitol Attack.
Lawfareblog.com was founded by Benjamin Wittes, Jack Goldsmith and Bobby Chesney and went live on September 1, 2010. Since its inception, it has been published in cooperation with the Brookings Institution.
