Elon University School of Communications Elon’s School of Communications is home to nearly 1,400 students, representing about 20 percent of the university’s student body. Sixty-four full-time faculty and 13 full-time staff support undergraduate majors in journalism, strategic communications, cinema and television arts, communication design, media analytics and sport management. In addition, the school features a full-time, 10-month master of arts program in interactive media.
Elon is one of 18 private colleges and universities in the nation accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). In 2023 the school’s sport management program was granted full accreditation by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation, becoming one of 35 COSMA-accredited programs in the nation.
The school encompasses four buildings on Elon’s historic and beautiful campus. In 2017, Dwight C. Schar Hall and Steers Pavilion opened and joined the fully renovated McEwen and Long buildings to form a communications commons. The facilities include 21 classrooms and labs, two HD television studios, 25 video editing suites, the 220-seat Turner Theatre and a 70-seat screening room for cinema, the student internship and career center, and dedicated offices and studios for student media.
The school supports a wide range of opportunities for students to put their learning into practice. Highly active student organizations include Elon News Network, Live Oak Communications agency, WSOE-FM radio, elondocs documentary organization, Elon Sports Vision live event production, Cinelon film productions and others.
