KTSF is a pioneer in the broadcasting industry and is proud of its track record of achievements in serving Asian and other ethnic communities in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1976. KTSF-TV went on the air on September 4, 1976 with the primary mission of reaching under served markets. With this objective, KTSF became the first television station in the United States to focus on Asian-language and other ethnic programming.
In 1989, KTSF began broadcasting the first nightly, live Chinese language newscast in the United States. KTSF added a live Mandarin-language broadcast in 1991. In 1999, both weeknight newscasts were expanded from half-hour to one-hour programs. In 2006, KTSF added live newscasts on Saturday and Sunday.
Since 1976, KTSF has succeeded in expanding its foreign language programming to meet the changing demographics of the Bay Area and has been recognized by hundreds of community service organizations.
