MULTIMEDIA PRODUCER/JOURNALIST I/II/III

Position Summary:
 
The Multimedia Producer/Journalist for WCMU Public Media is a storyteller responsible for writing high-quality content for television and digital audiences with occasional crossover to radio. This position also researches and discovers story ideas, schedules productions, narrates content, and hosts in front of the camera in both live and live-to-tape scenarios.
 
Required Qualifications:
 
Multimedia Producer/Journalist I (BH-1)
Bachelor’s degree in multi-media, broadcasting, film, journalism, or a related field, or a combination of education and work experience that equates to 4 years.
Experience in on-camera situations, including impromptu interview questions and scripted situations.
Experience working in both studio and field situations.
Experience with program segment development: from story ideas and developing interview questions, to setting up shoots, and working with a team to deliver a finished product.
Excellent communication skills both verbally and in script writing.
Ability to meet deadlines while balancing multiple projects.
Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with co-workers, faculty, students, partners, and visitors.
Ability to work occasional evenings, overnights, or weekends as needed.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
 
Multimedia Producer/Journalist II (BH-2)
All qualifications listed for a Multimedia Producer/Journalist I (BH-1), plus:
Two additional years of increasingly responsible experience with key elements of the job including: on-camera situations, program segment development, and studio and field situations.
Consistently meets deadlines while balancing multiple projects.
 
Multimedia Producer/Journalist III (BH-3)
All qualifications listed for a Multimedia Producer/Journalist II (BH-2), plus:
Four additional years of increasingly responsible experience resulting in advanced skills with key elements of the job including confidence in on-camera situations, leading program and program segment development across platforms.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
 
Bachelor’s degree in multimedia, broadcasting, film, journalism, or a related field.
Experience shooting in a studio, in the field, or via a drone.
Experience lighting studio and remote shoots.
Experience with non-linear editing.
Experience supervising staff, interns, and students.
Experience reporting for print, web, or broadcast news.
Experience with live or live- to- tape fundraising.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
 
Multimedia Producer/Journalist I (BH-1)
Performs the following tasks under direct supervision:
Conducts in-depth research and interviews to develop enterprising story ideas on various topics.
Establishes and maintains relationships with project partners/collaborators.
Pitches video stories and multimedia projects that engage digital and broadcast audiences.
Manages pre-production planning and logistics.
Works with the Executive Producer/Production Manager for television to determine the content and focus of projects.
Acts as on-camera talent as needed.
Researches, writes, and edits scripts for video projects.
Records voice-over narration.
Works independently and within a team to complete video projects.
Assists in the development of television programs and materials.
Assists with in-studio and field productions.
Develops interstitials, segments, and programs for broadcast.
Produces live, multi-camera events, programs, and segments.
Produces journalistic, documentary-style videos that are informative and engaging.
Develops and produces compelling new programming as needed.
Writes scripts for on air fundraising.
Attends and supports station events as necessary.
Responsible for staying up to date on industry trends, current events, and audience preferences to inform content development decisions and maintain relevance.
Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Multimedia Producer/Journalist II (BH-2)
Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Multimedia Producer/Journalist I under limited supervision and with increased confidence and proficiency.
 
Multimedia Producer/Journalist III (BH-3)
Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Multimedia Producer/Journalist II under very limited to no supervision and with advanced confidence and proficiency.
