SUMMER INTERNS The Buffalo News, an award-winning daily news organization in New York’s second-largest city, is seeking creative, motivated student journalists for a 10-week full-time internship this summer.
We want our interns to walk away with a rewarding, real-world newsroom experience, a pile of great clips and the skills they need to develop into the next generation of journalists.
Qualified candidates should be inquisitive self-starters who can produce compelling multimedia content and feel empowered to find and pitch great stories.
We are seeking a variety of applicants, from news and sports reporters to digital editors, photographers and videographers, but all candidates need to be innovative, prolific and deadline-driven. Interns will work alongside journalists in our newsroom, who will provide guidance, direction and support. They’ll also have access to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists who are part of the Lee Enterprises network of more than 70 news markets across the United States. The internship pays $19.42 per hour, and News employees are available to advise successful applicants on local housing options, should they need it. Exceptional interns will be considered for full-time employment at the conclusion of the program.
Applicants should be enrolled in college or be recent college graduates. At least one previous internship in a media market or comparable work for a college news outlet is preferred. Interns should have their own transportation to assignments and must be available to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. We strive to hire talented and dedicated people who reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. People of all backgrounds and experiences are encouraged to apply. When applying, please submit the following items: a cover letter; a resume detailing relevant journalism experience; and five examples of published journalism work.
